About Hanfu Story

The Hanfu Story was born out of my deep love for Chinese culture and traditional values.

My name is 诗(Shi)婷(Ting) and like all Chinese names, it carries a meaning chosen with hope and blessings. 诗 (poetry) and 婷 (graceful). I suppose my parents wished for me to grow into a refined, graceful woman. And perhaps that's why I've always been drawn to poetries and the beauty of Hanfu, which holds so much of what Chinese culture represents.

Since young, I’ve been fascinated by China. From the famous Terracotta Warriors, the Forbidden City, and the Great Wall, to lesser-known marvels like the Sanxingdui civilization, I would read about them in my free time. Growing up where I did, there weren’t many opportunities to pursue archaeology, but that passion quietly stayed with me. Aside from ancient China, I also love reading and visiting ancient civilizations ruins from around the world. 

Back in the early 2000s, there weren’t any authentic or historically accurate Hanfu available. Even Hanfu costumes lacked the depth to truly reflect the ancient Chinese heritage. I always wondered, when will I finally wear my first Hanfu? 

Eventually, I entered university and was first accepted into a business program. But my heart was elsewhere. I took a leap of faith and switched to Chinese literature and language. I told myself: "If I don’t go for something I truly love now, I might never get a second chance." (If you're reading this, it's a sign to go after what you love.)

I never looked back. I loved every part of my studies — especially diving deep into ancient Chinese texts. I even learned 甲骨文 (oracle bone script)!

With everything I’ve learned, I felt a strong desire to share Hanfu with people around the world, to let others feel the same beauty, grace, and culture that I’ve always held dear. That’s how The Hanfu Story began.
